Our first beach wedding in The Netherlands
In Australia we lived less than a fifteen minute drive from the beach. Almost every wedding we photographed there, included taking pictures at the beach. In the Netherlands, however, we were yet to experience this until last September.
As the wedding planning started, Leoni and Perry both agreed that they wanted a beach wedding.
When they came to us to discuss their wedding plans, she told me that it would definitely be nice weather. The warm temperatures of the previous summer gave us all a high level of optimism. When the big day came, the sun was out in full force, also accompanied a strong wind!
After Perry picked up Leoni from her parents’ house, we drove to Landgoed Ockenburg near Kijkduin to take photos. What a beautiful place, and to top it off, autumn had just started to announce itself. It was wonderful and relaxed with lots of great photo spots, and thankfully no wind. A portion of the time was spent taking some photos with Perry’s second love – a stunning red corvette! (I don’t think I’ve ever enjoyed riding shotgun in a groom’s car so much!).
After the photos we headed to the beach, where the day guests were all waiting to join the bride and groom for their wedding ceremony at the Beachclub People, a cozy beach restaurant nestled at the base of the sand dunes. It was a beautiful picture- the clear blue sky, the beautiful sand, pergola and a radiant wedding couple. During the ceremony the wind blew so hard that the wedding documents had to be held down by all witnesses while signing. This turned out to be quite a beautiful symbolic moment. The legal witnesses not only put a signature on your wedding papers, but also vow to help you and encourage you when it’s sometimes difficult.
The rest of the day was nice and relaxed, as it should be at a beach wedding. Lunch, church service, delicious cake; it was cozy and intimate. At the end of the day we took a few more photos on the beach, and after a beautiful sunset, the party went on. It was a beautiful day with lots of love and smiles.
